I used to respond with so much anger because that’s what I was told I was, angry. Yoga showed me that’s not who I am. I found if I can find peace within then I can help others find it as well.”

Amidst ongoing challenges with Child Protective Services and being separated from her children for 11 months, her yoga practice helped her stay grounded and maintain perspective. “Through my practices, it has allowed me to see the larger picture,” she says. “I’m reminded to stay grounded and in the same sense I am human, and it’s okay to feel. It’s natural to feel emotions good and bad.”

For her, the journey of yoga is a continuous one, without an end goal. “Every experience is a new experience, and you will never experience the same thing twice,” she says. As she envisions the future of yoga practice, she hopes to see Yoga Teacher Training becoming a prerequisite to becoming an adult in the US. As more people embrace a holistic and natural approach to mental wellness and natural healing, she envisions society coming together and advocating for one another.
