Your Personal Genie!

With Inputs from Trisha Kaushik

We have all heard about Aladdin and seen the animated Disney movie. There is a character called Genie with Aladdin, and Aladdin has a lamp. When he turns on the lamp, Genie comes out of it. Whatever Aladdin says to Genie gets manifested.

Similarly, we all have a personal genie—our subconscious mind. This subconscious mind constitutes 88-90% of the human mind and is 6,000 times more powerful than the conscious mind. So, 88-90% of our life is driven by our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is like fertile land. Whatever seed goes into it, the subconscious mind starts working on it. The seed represents our thoughts combined with emotions.

Imagine these thoughts and emotions being planted in the subconscious mind like seeds in fertile soil. If positive and constructive thoughts are sown, they grow into a healthy tree, and life flourishes. However, if negative or toxic thoughts are sown, they can grow into problems and challenges in life. This is why it is essential to be vigilant about the thoughts and emotions we harbor.

Case Study: The Power of Belief Systems

Let’s look at a real-life example to understand this better.

Presenting Issue: The client had come for relief from migraines. He had been suffering from the condition for the past year, experiencing attacks about twice a week.

Case Study: When Siddharth (name changed) came for his first session, he was explained how our emotions speak through our body. In the subsequent therapy session, it was found that when he was six years old, he wanted to participate in a fancy-dress competition and wanted to dress up as a policeman. However, his father wanted him to dress as a tribal. Despite Siddharth’s protests, his father convinced him to wear the tribal dress. Siddharth reluctantly wore it, and as fate would have it, he won the first prize in the competition.

At that moment, Siddharth concluded that his father’s decisions were right and that he himself was not foresighted. He made a decision, as a six-year-old, that he would always follow his father’s decisions.

Repercussions of the Incidence:

Even though Siddharth won the first prize, he lost confidence in his decision-making abilities compared to his father’s. Initially, it did not matter much, but it had far-reaching consequences for the rest of his life. He became heavily dependent on his father for all decisions, which often made him feel sad. The suppression of his innate feelings, lack of independence, and lack of confidence in his decision-making abilities (decision-making happens at the head/brain level) led to a feeling of pain, eventually manifesting as migraines.

This belief system, formed at the age of six, played a significant role in Siddharth’s life. By the time he came for therapy at 26 years of age, this belief system was deeply ingrained in his subconscious mind. Whenever he had to make decisions, whether big or small, he felt compelled to rely on his father’s judgment rather than his own.

Insight into Belief Systems

Dr. Joseph Murphy, a renowned author of “The Power of the Subconscious Mind,” states, “The law of life is the law of belief.” Our belief system freezes by the age of 7-8. This belief system manifests such situations in our life, thereby causing us to live on autopilot mode, where our life becomes a by-product of our belief system.

If you have identified certain belief systems in your life that are impeding your journey or causing hurdles, it is crucial to know how to change them. To understand this process, stay tuned for our next article, where we will delve deeper into reprogramming the subconscious mind and transforming limiting beliefs into empowering ones.
